Many of us learn how to make a map by throwing a north arrow and a scale bar over some type of imagery and calling it a day, but maps are a visual media, and as with all visual communications, there are some guidelines and considerations that help you to better convey your message. I'll go over some very basic "rules" in the art world, including visual hierarchy, color theory, and fonts.
